PIPPIN - Ok. Seriously. You must see Pippin! I attended the 3rd preview and was absolutely blown away. I have a personal connection with the show having toured in it many many moons ago. This production surpasses any other I have seen, and revives the love for theatre magic over and over again throughout the evening. For those of you who know the show well - the script has been tweaked every so slightly - and improved over the original (especially the ending - which I won't dare give away). MUST SEE! KINKY BOOTS - I saw the show during its out of town tryout in Chicago and I was so entirely overjoyed that I could barely speak at the end. I am a pretty cold hearted person when I see theatre. If I am sincerely moved, I will shed one single tear, out of only one eye. During Kinky Boots, I counted - 5 tears, alternating from each eye. Pretty impressive. Why? The story is universal, and ultimately about fathers and sons, and our own attempt to get to the root of pleasing our fathers. See there I go again (tearing up). Oh, and the score is WONDERFUL! Cyndi can really write for Broadway without losing her unique voice. MUST SEE. UPDATE: I was invited to see the show twice during the first week of previews. The show is in amazing shape, and has benefitted by the tweaks made in Chicago and before beginning performances in NYC. The show is even sharper, funnier and more touching than my prior visit. GO! Nicholas Martin directs. Full Disclosure- I am one of the producers for this show. BUT - I would not have joined the team had I not fallen absolutely in love with this show when I saw it at Lincoln Center's Off Broadway space. The entire cast is phenominal, but you will be blown away by David Hyde Pierce's hysterical (and loooong) monologue in Act II.
